Purpose: Esophageal stethoscope is less invasive and easy to handling. And it gives a lot of information (heart sound, breathing, body temperature, etc.). The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation of blood pressure and heart sound as measured by esophageal stethoscope.
Materials and Methods: In a randomized prospective study, 20 patients were enrolled to investigate the correlation of blood pressure and heart sound as measured by esophageal stethoscope. Esophageal stethoscopes were mounted on 28-32cm deep. There was a microphone connection. And heart sounds were recorded by computer. Hundred fifty Hz low pass filtering was performed in recorded heart sound. S1 data were determined by dividing into the M1 and T1. And S2 data were measured. Sound pressure was expressed as sound pressure level. The unit was to smpl (sound milli pressure level).
Results: Systolic blood pressure and M1 of S1 showed the greatest correlation coefficient. Systolic blood pressure and S2 also showed a positive correlation. But blood pressure and T1 of S1 did not show a significant correlation.
Conclusion: Assessed by esophageal stethoscope, we found that the greatest correlation between systolic blood pressure and M1 of S1.
